Principles of Good Governance
This guide is designed to support Boards responsible for the governance of independent schools, whether these schools operate in the UK or internationally. It outlines the principles of good governance and provides practical advice to help Boards navigate the complexities of managing schools within diverse legal and organisational structures.
AGBIS has long provided a publication ‘Guidelines for Governors’ which is guidance for schools owned by charities in the UK. This guide builds on those foundations but is designed to address the needs of schools owned in all manner of ways and with diverse governance models appropriate to their ownership structures and jurisdictions.
Guidance for Local Advisory Boards (LABs)
A well-constituted and effective LAB can provide invaluable support, offering strategic guidance, independent oversight, and a diverse range of expertise to the school's proprietor(s) and leadership team. This guidance document outlines how LABs can effectively support proprietorial independent schools, focusing on key areas of contribution and best practice for their operation.
