Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools

MEMBERSHIP |
The Governing Body of any independent school which is registered in the register of charities, or is an exempt charity for the purposes of Schedule II of the Charities Act 1993 may apply for membership of the Association. In addition, Schools which are not charities may apply for associate membership, subject to membership of one of the associations listed below and to certain criteria set by the Executive Committee.
Applications are presented to the Executive Committee of AGBIS who will consider the educational and other standards of the school. Governing bodies shall be admitted to membership subject to their Heads becoming members of one of the organisations listed below, within one year and subject to such conditions as the Committee may determine:
HMC - The Headmasters and Headmistresses Conference
GSA - The Girls' Schools Association
IAPS - The Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools
ISA - The Independent Schools Association
SHMIS - The Society of Heads of Independent Schools
Schools may also apply for Associate Membership if they are in membership of:
SCIS - Scottish Council of Independent Schools
WISC - Welsh Independent Schools Council
COBIS - Council of British International Schools
